SGU Curriculum Changes

THIS POST WAS LAST UPDATED APRIL 2018.

Word of warning to incoming classes after 2016. Most advice, blogs, tips for academics including mine will likely no longer be relevant. This new curriculum has only been in effect for a year. See the most recent blogs for most relevant academic experiences >> Other SGU Bloggers.

SGU is making what I’d consider a huge change to the curriculum. Feel free to read my term 1 summary for non-academic advice but basically the changes are outlined as follows:

The biggest change was a transition to system based instead of linear. The total course work will be the same number of credits as originally, redistributed differently across terms.
If that means nothing to you, credit value of basic sciences remain the same but the structure and distribution of the credits have changed.
The curriculum will change to systems based which reflects how most US schools are and there are pros and cons to both the new curriculum and the one that was in place for us but there’s no need to debate it. Hopefully it works out for the new class but the administration is willing to listen because most of these changes were what our class had wanted at some point or another throughout the last 2 years.
