So this morning, I was supposed to get on the plane at 12:45a for boarding and before we even started, they mentioned that they overbooked the flight. The boarding time was 45 minutes and there was not enough overhead space in the compartments for everyone to put their carry ons. They asked if anyone wanted to volunteer to check in their bags for free rather than carry on. Once we all sat down, captain got on the PA system and said that the plane was too heavy to back out. They took 15 bags off the plane and delayed the flight 45 minutes in doing so. Now, 2:46a, almost an hour after we were supposed to depart at 1:40a, we were delayed due to rain. We sat on the end of the runway waiting for a cloud to pass in a couple of minutes.
We went off the active runway, waited, looped back around, got ready to take off, looped back around while the captain was “negotiating with Air Traffic Control for runway with clear weather for takeoff”. Anyway, we took off at 3:35a and landed 2 hours late in Grenada. We still didn’t know if our bags were even on the plane with us and it was also raining here so the baggage was transported from the plane through the rain, into the terminal.
They don’t have traditional gates and roofed baggage carts to load and unload the planes like we do.
Then went in, got approved by immigration, but then we made it to the baggage claim. What a mess. The bags were hidden in a corner and nobody told you about it. Then once you realized where your bags were, you had to stand in a line that didn’t move. I was only there for 2 hours but it was still stupid.
They only made me declare laptop/tablet though.
Once I finally made it to campus, all was well. I’ll probably write a separate post for that though. …when my Firefly account gets fixed.
