SGU Curriculum Changes for Fall 2016

Word of warning to the incoming August 2016 class. Most advice, blogs, tips for academics including mine will likely no longer be relevant with regards to content of each course with the curriculum changes outlined below however the living experiences, academic and social environments will likely be the same so feel free to read, browse and ask any questions you may have.

SGU is making what I’d consider a huge change to the curriculum. Feel free to read my term 1 summary for non-academic advice but basically the changes are outlined as follows (according to what we were told late 2015).

*unchanged other than credit values*
Other notes: transition to system based instead of linear. The total course work will be the same number of credits as originally, redistributed differently across terms.
If that means nothing to you, I believe credit value of basic sciences remain the same but the structure and distribution of the credits have changed. Also, don’t take this as any official listing, I am not involved with any of these changes. This was simply relayed to us at a class meeting and by no means do I believe that these are finalized changes either. The curriculum will change to systems based which reflects how most US schools are and there are pros and cons to both the new curriculum and the one that was in place for us but there’s no need to debate it. Hopefully it works out for the new class but the administration is willing to listen because most of these changes were what our class had wanted at some point or another throughout the last 2 years.
